Submission Open for Asian Project Market 2017 (until June 15th)
Meet imaginative new projects at Busan International Film Festival
The Asian Project Market (APM) is opening its doors until June 15 for new projects looking for co-producers and investors.
APM, originally launched in 1998 as the Pusan Promotion Plan (PPP), will now celebrate its 20th edition in October. A total of 499 official projects were selected from the last 19 editions, with many of them spotlighted throughout the globe. It has flourished as the biggest investment and co-production market based on various networking events among film professionals visiting Busan. Strong interest for APM projects is also one of the reasons for the APM success. Each year, APM holds over 500 meetings with project representatives and the film industry gathered at Busan.
Recent Korean projects supported by APM include films by acclaimed directors such as Snowpiercer by BONG Joon-ho (2013), The Berlin File by RYOO Seung-wan (2012), Seoul Station by YEON Sang-ho (2016) and Gyeongju by ZHANG Lu.
Moreover, projects from directors around Asia, including Stray Dogs by TSAI Ming Liang (2013) and The President by Mohsen MAKHMALBAF (2014), have been highly praised at renowned film festivals. Another APM supported film, An by KAWASE Naomi (2015) was the opening film for Un Certain Regards at Cannes, 2015, and A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery by Lav DIAZ (2016) won the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize at Berlinale, 2016.
Recent APM selected works by young directors are outstanding. Davy CHOU's Diamond Island (2016) won the SACD Prize at Cannes last year. Indonesian film, Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts (2017) by Mouly SURYA is invited to the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes this year. My Happy Family (2017), by Nana EKVTIMISHVILI and Simon GROSS, has drawn attention after screenings at the Berlinale and Sundance Film Festival, 2017.
APM will select about 30 creative projects from both new and well-known directors in Asia and around the world. Business meetings with investors and co-producers for selected projects will be arranged in October. Registration is available online at APM official website (http://apm.asianfilmmarket.org) until June 15th.
